Welcome to my website

Marcus Hernandez, musical director

I am thrilled to have you here! I am Marcus Hernandez, the musical director and founder of Orchestra Fuego. My journey began in the vibrant streets of Brooklyn, NY, where I embraced the rhythm of Salsa music in the early '70s and became part of the exciting emergence of Salsa music in NYC.

When I first ventured into the vibrant world of Salsa music, two legends stood out as my primary influences: Eddie Palmieri and Papo Lucca. Their captivating piano performances drew me in, each note bursting with energy and passion. I was particularly inspired by their mastery of the montuno—a rhythmic and melodic pattern that defines Salsa. The way they effortlessly blended intricate melodies with infectious rhythms created a sound that resonated deeply within me, fueling my desire to hone my own skills in this dynamic musical style.

In 1975, I launched my first group, "Fuego 77," and had the incredible opportunity to record with Alegre Records, a subsidiary of the legendary Fania Records family. However, as the '90s rolled in and Salsa saw a decline, I shifted gears and explored a career in accounting. In 2005, I moved to sunny Tampa, FL, where the call of music proved too strong to resist.

In 2015, I reignited my passion for performing by starting my new band, Orchestra Fuego. I pour my heart into every note, and for those who know me, you'll understand that once I commit to something, I go all in.

In 2015 I released my first single, "Encendido," which ignited excitement upon its release, going viral and proving that listeners were ready for fresh sounds. That same year, I released my debut album, also named "Encendido."

Fast-forward to today, we've released eight albums, a dozen singles, and over twenty lively music videos! Orchestra Fuego remains committed to the authentic NYC Salsa style and has established a prominent presence in the music world. It is recognized as one of the leading independent Salsa bands internationally. The band has garnered widespread acclaim, receiving nominations for both Grammy and Latin Grammy awards, as well as wins on esteemed independent platforms, such as the Independent Music Awards, the LIT Music Awards and InterContinental Music Awards.
